A new app is part bikeshare and part Airbnb.
Michael Cabanatuan shares news of Spinlister, an app that "allows bike owners anywhere in the world who aren’t using their two-wheelers to lease them out by the hour, day or week to cyclists in need of something to ride."
The app merges the idea behind two of the darlings of the sharing economy. "Rather than having a fleet of bikes that people can use for short trips around town — Bay Area Bike Share’s model — Spinlister is more of an Airbnb for bikes," according to Cabanatuan.
According to the article, "[all] kinds of bikes are listed on the website — from beach cruisers to mountain bikes to high-end road bikes. They list from roughly $5 to $150 a day.
Although the article is targeted to a San Francisco Bay Area audience, a quick scan of the site for bikes in Los Angeles located a pink trimmed fixed gear bike for rent available a half-block away from my home.
