Judge Clears Way for Redevelopment of Pittsburgh's Former Civic Arena Site

The proposed redevelopment of the 28-acre site—former home of the Civic Arena—would produce a corporate headquarters and a mix of uses and housing.

"A judge…approved the settlement that clears the way for the development of the new U.S. Steel headquarters on the former Civic Arena site," reports Lexi Belculfine. The decision clears the way for the redevelopment of a 28-acre site in the lower Hill District of Pittsburgh.

The Hill Community Development Corp. had filed the appeal against the city and the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team, but will now support the redevelopment proposed by U.S. Steel. "The parties also agreed to revised language that will govern a new zoning district to be set up as part of the arena development."

Mark Belko reports on the controversy over the site earlier this month, when the Hill CDC filed the appeal against the Penguins.
