Gov. Cuomo Proposes Train Connection to LaGuardia Airport

A proposal by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo would add an AirTrain-like connection from Queens to the beleaguered airport.

"Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Tuesday proposed the construction of an elevated AirTrain to La Guardia Airport, the first mass transit link to an airfield long lamented for its relatively isolated location in Queens," reports Michael M. Brynbaum.

"The proposed train would connect with the No. 7 subway line and the Long Island Rail Road at an expanded terminal in Willets Point in Queens, alongside Citi Field and the U.S. Open tennis center."

The highly speculative proposal would require a design phase before a timetable for construction could be set. The governor's office, however, was willing to estimate that a 1.5-mile line—similar to the AirTrains that connect to Kennedy Airport—would cost about $450 million to build.
