Planners have good reason to be thoughtful on the occasion of Black History Month. One blogger offers reflections and insight that should inspire thoughtfulness the rest of the year, too.

"February is Black History Month and it's a good opportunity for the planning profession to focus attention on African-American issues and cultural history in terms of land use planning, transportation planning and transit, and parks planning (among other disciplines)," according to a post by Richard Layman.

The post addresses a list of key planning concepts as related to black communities, both contemporarily and in the past. Throughout the post, layman links to professional resources such as Planning and the Black Community (i.e., "one of the membership divisions of the American Planning Association) and recommendations for viewing and reading.
