Looking for evidence of the resurgence of suburban developments? Look no farther than the suburbs of Dallas and Fort Worth, says a recent column in the Dallas Morning News.
Columnist Steve Brown acknowledges the trend toward residential construction in the most urban sections of Dallas, but he also notices what he describes as an underreported wave of development in the far suburbs.
Brown seeks out an analyst to make the larger point of the article:
"'We've spent the last decade talking about the urban core, and the suburbs are becoming a new interesting story,' said Greg Willett, vice president with Carrollton-based apartment analyst MPF Research. 'It’s an evolving environment where you are urbanizing suburban locations.'"
The article clearly buys into the narrative put forward by the recent survey from the National Association of Home Builders (a survey and a narrative that CityLab's Sommer Mathis critiqued shortly after the survey was released). But Brown also has specific examples of suburban developments with a more urban feel appearing in places like West Plano.
