City of Fort Lauderdale's Commissioners voted to reduce the height of future construction.
The move to reduce the height of buildings in the beach is part of a trend to control large developments that began with a building moratorium four years ago, as city officials worried that the beach area was headed for overdevelopment. Broward County, with similar concerns, has recently directed its staff to study barrier island development. City Commissioners warned even more restrictions may be coming. The Urban Land Institute is conducting a review of the beach in November and may recommend additional measures.
