Disney Imagineers' Next Big Thing: 'Avatar' Theme Park in Orlando

The world of Pandora, created by James Cameron for the blockbuster film Avatar, will be the next addition to Disney's Animal Kingdom park in Orlando, Florida.

Marc Glaser reports that Disney Imagineering recently revealed designs for a new attraction at its Animal Kingdom theme park in Orlando, Florida. The new attraction will be called "Pandora," modeled on the wildly popular movie Avatar.

Bruce Vaughn, chief creative executive of Walt Disney Imagineering, revealed Disney's plans in a post for the Disney Parks Blog.

Dewayne Bevil reports the few additional details currently available: "The project was announced in 2011, and construction started in 2014. The area is expected to open in 2017."

Some first hints of what the park will look like can be found in the video below, as was shared on the Disney Parks Blog.
