Charleston Planning a Bike Infrastructure Update

The capital of West Virginia has hired Alta Planning and Design to undertake a ten-month process to update the city's bike and trail plan.

"Efforts to rethink and redesign the walkways and bike paths of West Virginia’s capital city are underway," reports Andrew Brown. In launching the planning effort, "city officials and employees with Alta Planning and Design held open-door meetings to discuss the creation of the city’s Bike and Trail Master Plan."

The hearings are the first steps in a ten-month process that will plan for future improvements to the city's bike routes. The article features a lot of soundbites from participants in the hearing.

Of additional interest is a note at the end of the story paraphrasing Charleston City Manager pitching urban planning as an essential to efforts in attracting younger residents to live in the area. Charleston, he notes, is home to an aging population.
