A ceremonial groundbreaking kicked off what will become the country's first off-shore wind project near Block Island in Rhode Island.
Governor Raimondo and the Rhode Island congressional delegation joined Deepwater Wind leaders in the Quonset Business Park on April 27, 2015 "to celebrate the start of local construction activities for the first offshore wind farm in the United States," reports Alex Kuffner.
The Deepwater Wind project will build five wind turbines off of Block Island. Foundations will be installed this summer, with cable and turbine to follow next year. The wind farm is expected to go operational in fall of 2016.
