Today's a big day in Houston: two new light rail lines will now supplement the success of the city's Red Line. Meet the Green and Purple Lines, serving the East End and Southeast Houston.

Gail Delaughter explains the festivities planned for Saturday, May 23, 2015—the first day of operation for Houston's two newest transit additions. The Metrorail Green and Purple lines will connect the Theater District to the East End and Southeast Houston, respectively.
Houston Metro will have three separate ribbon cuttings: "At 3:00 p.m., they'll officially open the Southeast Line at Palm Center, near MLK and Griggs. A half-hour later, the East End line kicks off at 3:30 p.m. at Harrisburg and Lockwood. There's another ceremony at 4:00 p.m. where the two lines meet in the Theatre District."
Houston Public Media has collected its coverage of the new rail lines in one place, if you'd like to celebrate the new transit capacity by reading up on the details of the projects.
