A lawsuit filed by Missouri state legislators finds fault with a plan to extend bond funding from the city's last NFL stadium project to help finance a new $985 million stadium located north of downtown along the city's waterfront.
"Six state legislators have sued Gov. Jay Nixon and the public board that owns and operates the Edward Jones Dome to block funding of a new riverfront football stadium here," report David Hunn and Alex Stuckey.
"The suit attacks Nixon’s plans for a new $985 million arena just north of downtown. A governor-appointed task force has estimated it will take at least $250 million from the state and city of St. Louis, and said that money will come from an 'extension' of the bonds used to build the Edward Jones Dome, where the St. Louis Rams now play."
The new suit joins an earlier suit by the city authority that owns and operates the Edward Jones Dome. City officials, as well as Missouri Governor Jay Nixon, support the plans for a new stadium as an incentive to keep the St. Louis Rams NFL team from relocating to Los Angeles.
