Although lead is a naturally occurring heavy metal, high concentrations of it are known to be harmful to people and animals... In Illinois, neither the state Environmental Protection Agency nor the Department of Natural Resources keeps track of how many public and private shooting ranges there are, much less how many have been abandoned over the years."
