The American Planning Association (APA) praises the State of Illinois for passage of the Local Planning Technical Assistance Act, which it characterizes as "exemplary and trend-setting." The new law, which is based on APA's Growing Smart Legislative Guidebook, updates the state's 1920s planning statutes, defines what should be included in a comprehensive plan, and authorizes the state Department of Commerce and Community Affairs to offer a variety of planning-related technical assistance.
