With the population of Utah expected to double in the next 25 years, a new regional transportation plan focuses on alternative transportation to achieve air quality benefits.
"The Wasatch Front Regional Council recently adopted its 2015-2040 Regional Transportation Plan," reports Jasen Lee. The plan sets the agenda for roadway, transit, and bike projects for the next 25 years in Salt Lake, Davis and Weber counties, and a portion of Box Elder County.
Notable in the plan is a focus on alternative transportation projects. According to Lee:
"In addition to state and local road needs, the plan details projected increases for transit service and bicycle projects. For example, it identified $1 billion to be invested specifically for improved services on existing local bus and rail networks by extending the hours of operation, increasing the frequency of service and expanding the service coverage area..."
