In a civic exercise only possible in Pittsburgh, residents voted online in resounding support of keeping the color scheme of the city's famous Three Sisters Bridges.
"At the end of a two-week online poll hosted by Allegheny County, 10,527 voters (nearly 85 percent) said the Three Sisters Bridges — named for Roberto Clemente, Andy Warhol and Rachel Carson — should stay 'Aztec Gold' when they are repainted in the coming years," reports Molly Born.
"Only 837 liked the idea suggested to Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald on a call-in show that the Warhol be painted silver in a nod to the artist’s Silver Clouds installation and the Rachel Carson Bridge green in the spirit of her conservation work."
The article goes on to provide more info on how the debate cam about, the importance of the bridges to Pittsburgh, and soundbites from architectural historian Charles Rosenblum on why the Aztec Gold color is critical to the historic and iconic value of the bridges.
