Just a week before the first anniversary of 9/11, New York City has made impressive progress in restoring vital infrastructure in Lower Manhattan.
"Beneath the once-scarred streets of lower Manhattan, 130 miles of electric cable have been replaced. So has nearly a mile of gas pipe.Aboveground, more than 122 buildings have been cleaned of dust and grime, and almost every street has been repaved. These and other completed jobs - some obvious, some not - were neatly laid out yesterday by Mayor Bloomberg and Gov. Pataki, one week before the city marks the first anniversary of the Sept.11 attacks."
