A part of the city of Providence once lobotomized by the I-95 freeway is ready to be born anew as LINK, with three projects already in the works and 19 acres of developable land.

"A real estate initiative involving 19 acres of vacant land made available after the relocation of Interstate 195 is attracting interest from developers after a sluggish start," reports Elizabeth Abbott.

"Most of the new parcels became ready for development last year, after considerable infrastructure work was completed in the newly formed I-195 Redevelopment District. Among other things, the state laid new underground power lines and realigned streets to attract developers."

The article includes a lot more detail about the developments planned and proposed for the new neighborhood at the base of Fox Point. All of the developments are overseen by the I-195 Redevelopment District Commission, created by the state of Rhode Island and tasked by Gov. Gina Raimondo with transforming the area into an innovation hub.
