Parts of Detroit recently upgraded to parking kiosks that enable technologically-enhanced parking enforcement. A few weeks after enforcement began, the Detroit Free Press offers tips for navigating the new system.
Joe Guillen reports on the new parking kiosks that have been installed in the Detroit neighborhoods of downtown, Midtown, Corktown and along Michigan Avenue and Vernor in southwest and Livernois in northwest Detroit.
According to Guillen, "Parking meters in those areas have been removed. Rather than park in an assigned space, drivers park on the street and posted signs tell drivers the zone where they parked. Drivers can pay with coins or credit card at a kiosk on the curb or through their smartphone by downloading the ParkDetroit mobile app or going to the www.parkdetroit.us website."
For more on the new parking system, Matt Helms also reported on the details of the system at the end of August, just before the city began enforcing the system enforcement, following a grace period to allow drivers to adjust to the new technology.
