Colorado will call on its Department of Transportation to help make the state "the best state for biking" in the country.

"Gov. John Hickenlooper on Wednesday announced a plan to spend more than $100 million over the next four years to make Colorado 'the best state for biking in the country,'" reports Jason Blevins. Governor Hickenlooper made the announcement at the annual Interbike rally, held in Las Vegas, citing economic and environmental benefits of biking as a reason for the investment.
Blevins shares some of the early details of the project, which include $10 million over four years for the Safe Routes to Schools program and separate allocations for bicycle and pedestrian of $60 million over four years from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and $30 million over four years in Great Outdoors Colorado grants.
According to the article, Governor Hickenlooper's plans will require CDOT to incorporate bike and pedestrian-friendly designs into all projects.
