The Kansas City Star features a special five-part series, "Saving downtown: Why reviving the city center matters even in the suburbs."
The Kansas City Star features a series of articles about revitalizing downtown Kansas City. The Star's research will be of interest to other communities about the importance of a healthy downtown to the entire metro, as well as strategies being pursued in other American cities for revitalizing downtowns including Denver, Minneapolis, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh. The first part of the series ran on Sunday, Sept. 22, and the other five parts will run on consecutive Sundays. "[Kansas City has] ignored just about every significant downtown trend across the country. We didn't reclaim our riverfront. Or build some sports palace. Or light rail. Or an entertainment complex -- that one died when the plug was pulled on the Power & Light District... Now we're paying the price."
