Smoggiest Cities In The Nation

California, Pennsylvania and Texas were the smoggiest states based on the number of exceedances of the health standard.

This report, published by the U.S. Public Interest ResearchGroups(PIRG), examines 2001 air quality data from 42states and the District of Columbia. San Bernardino County and the City of Houston were the smoggiest regions in the nation,with the highest number of residents exposed to unhealthy airconditions.According to the study, partial 2002 data indicates that the number ofincidences in some states will triple or quadruple compared to 2001. Thereport also analyzes preliminary 2002 ozone data from 20 states and theDistrict of Columbia.
