"As the Las Vegas Valleys population has grown, so has its employment base. In fact, it is the rapid growth of the economy that has driven southern Nevadas evolution since 1990. Since 1992, the valleys total employment has nearly doubled, growing from 410,000 ten years ago to more than 700,000 today. Las Vegas is considered a service-oriented economy, with 45 percent of the labor force engaged in a service trade (and more than half of that in the gaming industry), compared with the nationwide average of 31 percent."
