Salt Lake's mayor hopes to transform Main Street from lifeless to lively.

Mayor Anderson's approach is outlined in a brochure soon to be sent to businesses, developers, land brokers and other downtown bigwigs to explain his accomplishments and outline his goals. The details range from the mundane (removing overgrown trees) to the grand (building a park-and-ride lot). Other ideas: more festivals; more bike lanes; more housing; cab stands; a farmer's market; a Main Street pedestrian mall; longer TRAX hours; a jitney system to move pedestrians more frequently than buses; and more enticing signs, lights, awnings and window displays.
