Google's response to its self-driving car getting pulled over by police in California: " "Driving too slowly? Bet humans don't get pulled over for that too often."
Jason Green reports on the slightly amusing, but also telling, anecdote of the time a Google autonomous car got pulled over by a cop—for driving too slowly.
"In a blog post, the Mountain View Police Department said the officer noticed traffic backing up behind a slow-moving car in the eastbound No. 3 lane, near Rengstorff Avenue," according to Green. "The vehicle was traveling at 24 mph in a 35 mph zone."
Self-driving cars are currently only permitted to drive on streets with 35 mph speed limits, and Google has already reported the difficulty in blending the car's priority on safety and legality with the erratic and frequently unlawful behavior of human drivers.
