The Charlotte, North Carolina transit provider proposes light rail, not busways, for its southeast transit corridor.

"Many of the 40-some speakers hit the same point: East Charlotte has high ridership and needs an economic boost, so it deserves -- and needs -- rail, not busways. They carried signs saying "Equality For ALL Corridors." City Council member Nancy Carter and county commissioner Dumont Clarke, who represent the area, spoke out for rail. The district's school board member, Louise Woods, was in the audience, too. Carter even tried a bit of drama at the lectern, saying, "Let me let my hair down and tell you how I really feel," then tugging off a scarf so her hair cascaded down her shoulders."
