Lynn Horsley reports: "It’s possible that passengers could be riding Kansas City’s new downtown streetcar in March, but the Streetcar Authority is now planning a big grand opening celebration for April."

There's a possibility, according to Horsley, that the streetcar could do a "soft opening"—similar to those practiced by restaurants—for the occasion of the Big 12 men's basketball tournament. "But Streetcar Authority members also said they are planning for a grand opening in April specifically to celebrate the streetcars — not in competition with something else like a big tournament or convention," writes Horsley.

The timeline's formality can be credited to the recent delivery of two of the system's four streetcars. The third is expected in March, and the final car is expected by March at the latest.
