With sidewalks in disrepair and shabby looking trees, Dallas has turned to planning and design firm NBBJ to create a new master plan for its Arts District.

After 30 years, the master plan for Dallas’ Arts District is finally ready to be retired. The Dallas Arts District Board has selected the firm NBBJ to lead the development of plan for the district, reports Robert Wilonsky of The Dallas Morning News. Doug Curtis of the Arts District's Infrastructure Committee hopes that the plan developed by NBBJ will “get the Arts District through the next 10, 15 years…”
Curtis says NBBJ will start its work around mid-January and spend the next nine to 11 months cataloging infrastructure inventory needs and shaping a long-term vision for the area, which is surrounded by things that were unimaginable in 1983 — like a park suspended over a freeway and a resurgent downtown.
Wilonsky reports that the most visible changes, i.e., improved sidewalks, won't be seen at least for another couple of years.
