A monorail through the heart of Seattle would have a dramatic impact on the architectural and cultural fabric of the city.
Despite some reservations, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer comes out squarely in support the newest proposal for a monorail through the heart of Seattle. "The monorail won't solve the city's traffic congestion problem. It will allow those who ride it to ignore the congestion problem. The system's greatest advantage is that it would be grade-separated; that is, it would move not only in a different lane than the rest of the vehicle traffic but also on a different plane... It's a bold plan built from the ground up on the dreams and vision of Seattle folks. It's a brash fusion of nostalgia for the city's 40-year-old monorail landmark and the exciting, attractive advances in that technology. It adds transportation capacity in an urban core without adding vehicles or removing existing lanes. It can be built more quickly than other transportation systems and with less construction disruption for business districts and neighborhoods."
