Big Expansion Approved for Austin-Area Highway

The Transportation Policy Board of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization approved a big spending increase for a project to widen U.S. Highway 183.

"The cost of a large expansion of U.S. Highway 183 in Northwest Austin officially nearly tripled on Monday night," reports Caleb Pritchard.

Specifically, "the Transportation Policy Board of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization voted to amend its long-range plan to increase the price of the 183 North Mobility Project from $225.7 million to $650 million."

The original cost for the project was approved in May 2015 as part of the CAMPO 2040 plan, but officials with the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority want to add features to the project after receiving input from the public.
