Plan Revitalizes Neighborhood School Concept

A Dayton, Ohio district plan hopes to strengthen neighborhoods by improving accessibility to schools.

"School officials hope most students will one day walk to the new schools, which will be designed to serve their local neighborhoods. They estimate that more than 97 percent of students will live within 1 1/2 miles of an elementary school when the plan is complete. And students will stay close to home longer, as Dayton will junk middle schools in favor of elementary schools serving students from pre-school until they are ready for high school."
