Neighborhood activists in Pittsburgh's Mount Washington and Duquesne Heights neighborhoods want to raise more than $1 million to integrate 4 existing parks, hillsides and greenways into a "system of green."
The Emerald Link would build on four significant city parks that already exist: Grandview Park and Grandview Overlook Park, known throughout the region for majestic views of the rivers and city below; along with Olympia Park and Mount Washington Park. There is also an area called "The Saddle", a steep slope covered in trees, and the Mount Washington and Duquesne Heights greenways. And not far away in Beechview is another hilly, forested area, the Seldom Seen Greeenway, that could also be included. "It's our front yard, but it's a national attraction," said Susan Brandt, director the Mount Washington Community Development Corporation.
