Walmart's New C-Store

Danger lies in the potential roll out of a new Walmart convenience-store (C-store) prototype.

At a time when the President is urging that the U.S. go to war to protect its oil interest, it looks as if Wal-Mart is waging an attack on gasoline-dependent retail by uprooting the convenience store sector. In Canada for example, Wal-Mart has been undercutting service stations with its discounted brand of gasoline served up at supercenters. But gas price wars are short-lived, and a fuel center attached to a 220,000-square-foot hypermarche is not the Trojan Horse. Rather, the real Armageddon lies in the potential roll out of a new convenience-store (C-store) prototype that can be easily fused with some of its newer small formats such as the dollar store concept "Hey Buck!" and the fresh produce Neighborhood Market...
