The bad news for Biscayne Bay is the latest in a string of bad news for the Turkey Point nuclear plant.
Tim Elfrink reports the results of a study by Miami-Dade County that finds evidence that the Turkey Point nuclear plant is "leaking dangerous wastewater into Biscayne Bay." According to Elfrink, "County water monitors found more than 200 times the normal levels of tritium, a radioactive isotope linked to nuclear power production, in the bay water…"
"The study is just the latest blow to FPL," adds Elfrink, "which lost a state court ruling last month when a judge found the utility had failed to prevent hundreds of thousands of gallons of wastewater from seeping into the bay."
Turkey Point was also one of the 13 nuclear plants identified as susceptible to sea level rise in a December article by Christina Nunez for National Geographic.
