One of the oldest forms of transportation in New York is about to get a fresh upgrade for 2017.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the details of a new citywide ferry service this week, awarding a $30 million a year contract to San Francisco-based Hornblower Cruises & Events to operate the system. "The service will include five new routes starting in 2017 and host about 4.6 million annual trips," according to an article by Rosa Goldensohn.
The announcement of the contract culminates a process launched in February 2015, when Mayor de Blasio announced the idea in a State of the City address. The article includes more details on the competition faced by Hornblower Cruises & Events in winning the bid, as well as additional details about the new citywide system.
