Just a single day with D.C. Metro was bad, but it's possible the closures were just getting started.
"Metro’s top officials warned Wednesday that the transit system is in such need of repair that they might shut down entire rail lines for as long as six months for maintenance," reports Robert McCartney.
The comments by Board Chairman Jack Evans (who is also a D.C. city councilmember) and General Manager Paul J. Wiedefeld emerged as D.C. Metro officials continue to probe the system's defects, including the infamous closure of the system's rail ines for a full day of service on March 16.
Evans singled out the Blue Line in particular as a candidate for long-term closure. The D.C. councilmember is quoted directly in the article explaining the need for the as yet hypothetical closures: "The system right now, in order to do the maintenance that needs to be done, cannot be done on three hours a night and on weekends.
