The City of Fort Lauderdale is asking State and County officials for approval to increase downtown housing.

Fort Lauderdale is seeking approval for a comprehensive plan amendment from State and County governments to allow an additional 2,700 residential units above the downtown's original cap of 5100 units. But developers looking to tap into that new pool will face stricter building requirements to address pedestrian-friendliness, access to transit and affordable housing issues.
