RenCen's Wintergarden in downtown Detroit has become a sanctuary of nature for downtown workers, winning praise for the design, and increased business for local merchants. "An escape with a river view is a precious commodity in downtown Detroit. One woman, eating her sack lunch on a bench, declines to give her name because she doesn't want her law firm coworkers to know where she disappears to during lunch several times a week. ... The tranquillity of nature can provide us peace in our caverns of concrete and steel."
