"The Ontario government plans to double the size of one of the most congested stretches of Highway 401," reports Shawn Jeffords. "The plan will see four kilometres from Hurontario Street to the Credit River [in the city of Mississauga] expanded from six to 12 lanes. The work is expected to be completed by the fall of 2019."

According to Jeffords, the current proposal includes two High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes, also known as carpool lanes. The HOV lanes could eventually also be converted to High Occupancy Toll lanes.

A separate short article by the Canadian Press reports that the project is one of 230 highway construction projects expected to begin this year in Ontario.
