A New Bus Rapid Transit Route for Fresno

Construction is set to begin on a $28 million, 15.7-mile bus rapid transit route in the city of Fresno.

"Construction of Fresno’s new Bus Rapid Transit system is expected to begin in a couple of weeks," reports Tim Sheehan. The article also reports that local officials celebrated the beginning of construction a few weeks early, with an event on June 1. The new route will be known simply as Q.

"When it is completed next year, the 15.7-mile, $28 million system will offer faster bus service along the Blackstone Avenue and Kings Canyon Road corridors linking downtown Fresno with the River Park and Sunnyside areas," adds Sheehan, who reports additional details about the bidding and contracting process leading up the beginning of construction.

The construction project is expected to be funded completely by state and federal funds, without using any of the city's general fund.
