Memphis Launches First Comprehensive Planning Effort Since 1981

Though it's been 35 years since its last comprehensive plan, the city of Memphis hopes to start updating its comprehensive plan every five to ten years.

"The city of Memphis will begin in September coming up with a comprehensive plan that could guide the city's growth for the next 20-25 years," reports Ryan Poe.

When complete, the new comprehensive plan will replace the city's 1981 version of the plan. The task of drafting the new plan falls to the city's newly created Office of Comprehensive Planning.  The new office is so now, in fact that the city will have to hire an administrator to lead it. The city is expecting to pay $2 million to create the plan.
