Mandatory Inclusionary Zoning Gets Committee Approval in Seattle

A key component of the city of Seattle's Housing Affordability and and Livability Agenda moved forward earlier this week.

"Seattle neighborhoods could start seeing bigger buildings under new zoning framework passed by [the City Council [Planning, Land Use, and Zoning Committee] Tuesday," according to Paige Browning.

"The legislation will change neighborhood zoning [pdf] so developers can put up larger, taller buildings. In return, developers will have to include low-cost housing units with each building – or pay into the city's affordable housing fund," reports Browning.

The map below illustrates where the new inclusionary zoning regulations would be implemented around the city.
