A book superstore would hurt homegrown businesses and the Austin economy, a study commissioned by a local nonprofit group claims.

"The study maintains that local retailers return more than three times as much economic value back to the community as chain retailers like Borders. The city of Austin has granted $2.1 million in development incentives for the project at Sixth and Lamar, of which $710,000 already has been used, according to the study."
