"Those appointed by the mayor and governor to the oversight board are issued identification badges and "smart cards," both of which allow the panelists to ride for free.In September, the Sun-Times asked the CTA under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act to provide a tally of how often those cards were used. The numbers were released Friday to the Sun-Times after the paper learned they finally had been compiled and were discussed at a closed-door session of the board two days earlier."
