Pedestrian safety and transit performance won out over parking concerns on San Francisco's Taraval Street.
"Taraval Street will be transformed in the name of pedestrian safety and speeding up the L-Taraval Muni light rail line by about three minutes in each direction," reports Joe Fitzgerald Rodriguez from San Francisco.
The decision to reconfigure the street came after a heated debate—opposing the proposal were neighbors concerned about parking and business along the street. In the end, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Board of Directors cited safety as the top concern in approving the change.
