AB 2480, recently signed into law by California Governor Jerry Brown takes a small but important step toward making better use of natural systems for water management infrastructure.

"On September 27th, Governor Brown signed legislation that recognizes the state’s watersheds as part of it’s [sic] infrastructure," according to an article by Luke Hunt. The bill, AB 2480, "opens the door to using modern infrastructure financing approaches [pdf] to protect and repair rivers and watersheds," adds Hunt. In the language of the bill, "the maintenance and repair of source watersheds is eligible for the same forms of financing as other water collection and treatment infrastructure."
