A $300 million redevelopment proposal has awoken gentrification concerns among residents and students at nearby Georgia State University in the post-Atlanta Braves era.

"Students and residents who hope to one day see grocery stores and dry cleaners in the neighborhoods around Turner Field took their message to Georgia State University [recently]," reports Leon Stafford.
Another key desire of the advocacy surrounding the future of the former home of the Atlanta Braves: to prevent "skyrocketing home prices and real estate taxes [that] drive longtime residents out of the neighborhood."
Now that the Braves have played their last game in Turner Field, "Georgia state and partners Carter and Oakwood Development are buying the stadium and the surrounding parking lots," according to Stafford. The partnership's $300 million redevelopment proposal so far includes housing, classrooms, and retail. Turner Field could also be converted to house the Georgia State University football program.
