Coming to Chicago's Grant Park: A 'Health Park'

The former site of a skate park currently sitting vacant in Downtown Chicago's Grant Park could be the site of an outdoor fitness park. The idea which has been called a more accessible, natural take on the Muscle Beach concept is being put together by a Chicago group with the support of a park equipment company from North Carolina called PlayPower. "PlayPower drew initial renderings for the park, which would include ample chin-up bars and other low-tech equipment, a stone circle intended as a central meeting point, and maybe even games, including human-sized Jenga and Connect Four," David Matthews reports in DNA Info.

The project, which is currently in its early phases, will be presented for public comment at a neighborhood hearing. Grant Park Conservancy, the group pursuing the project, "aims to secure enough sponsorships and private donors to open the health park without public subsidies," Matthews writes.
