That's a small price to pay to bring a $150 million system to a standstill.
"One of the biggest problems that could threaten the Cincinnati streetcar's success is getting worse," reports Jordan Burgess. "Numbers show the streetcar tracks are being blocked more than ever." The tracks were blocked 70 times in January, in fact, the highest number since the Cincinnati Bell Connector opened in September 2016.
The guilty party: parked cars. The city's $50 fine for parking on streetcar tracks isn't considered enough of a deterrent to stop people from blocking the passage of public transit.
The blockages are just one possible culprit in the system's ongoing struggle to retain ridership and deliver reliable service.
