A request for proposals for the planned Gordie Howe International Bridge, connecting Detroit to Windsor, includes a mandate to include pedestrian and bike infrastructure across the span.
"Bicyclists and pedestrians will be allowed to cross the planned Gordie Howe International Bridge the same as motorized vehicles," reports John Gallagher.
The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority "has asked the three finalist teams vying to build the bridge between Detroit and Windsor to include this design element in their responses to the Request for Proposals," adds Gallagher.
Planetizen first heard about the high-profile bridge project when the authority released a Request for Qualifications in July 2015. An RFP requesting multi-modal access across the border between Canada and the United States stands in stark contrast to the other big border new this week: that about 200 firms so far had responded to a solicitation from the federal government to design and build a wall along the border with Mexico.
