Dallas Parking Lot to Become $15 Million Green Space

Dallas City Council approved plans for a 3.2-acre park on what is currently a parking lot downtown.

The non-profit Parks for Downtown Dallas agreed to donate $15 million for the park's construction, as well as $1 million for initial operations.

Pacific Plaza, as it will be called, is one of four priority park projects identified in the city's 2013 Downtown Parks Master Plan. The city acquired the land about ten years ago, but took time to consider a competing proposal from developers that would have built a park on top of an underground parking garage.

Environmental remediation of the site could cost anywhere from $500,000-$1.6 million, and take until 2018. After that, construction is expected to take 12 to 18 months.
